We rented a car to get from Kelowna to Abbotsford BC and took the scenic route through the Fraser Canyon to the city of Abbotsford. There were beautiful views of the Fraser River, mountains, and the canyon.

It felt like we had left what remained of winter back in Vernon; lots of greenery and budding trees budding. The lawn obviously benefited from the soil scientist in residence.

We had a quick supper and then attended The Gospel of John, a three-actor play which took the audience through the fourth gospel in the Bible. It made John's account of the life of Jesus very real with some excellent acting.

The following day we strolled around Mill Lake, enjoying the sunshine and catching up with life from the Paul's perspective. We went to the House of James, a Christian bookstore/cafe in Abbotsford, and an aboriginal museum outside of Mission.

We bought a travel guitar to bring with us so that Herman would not go into withdrawal shock on the trip. We also bought a violin for Helen to take to Anna in Senegal.

John gave us a tour of the farm where his composting systems are being developed - very interesting use of worms to produce worm castings and methods to deal with surplus manure. Check it out:  Transform is his company's name.

On Saturday we went spring skiing in Hemlock Valley, with J&J, Reuben and 2 of his friends. Pat was pumped about managing to take the ski lift and ski down the mountain with some coaching from a very patient ski instructor (John). She acquired a few bruises but her ego was intact.

Sunday - Karen (after her night shift - with intense social work responsibilities) was back from visiting sister Jess (med school in Vancouver) and we all attended their church - New Life, lunch at John's sister's family home, and John and Joanne drove us to the Vancouver airport to send us on our way to New Zealand. They encouraged us to look up some of the Christian development organizations we have supported in the various countries we will visit, especially as they saw how important this can be when they volunteered in the Phillipines with CRWRC.

The first week of our trip made us realize how blessed we are with good friends in different parts of Canada. John and Joanne also celebrated their 25th anniversary last summer, a few wks before John and Linda.  It's a theme - our turn in 2010 - along with the other Scottsdale women and others whose weddings we attended that year in 1985.
