Where I stayed
Capital Country Holiday Village (Sutton NSW)
We arrived in Canberra on the 16th June 2008. We were in Canberra for nine days and while we were there we went to the following places, Cockington Green - this is a miniature village of England and also has some international displays. All the buildings are 1/12th the size of the original. We went to the mint and there was a great display of how money has changed over the years and the reason's why. We went to Tidbinbilla to the Deep Space Museum. It was interesting to see how the first rover mission was done. There is some great stuff if you are into space. A visit to Telstra Tower will allow you to see all of Canberra from the sky almost, and a trip to the botanical gardens is always worth a stroll as you never know what you might see or find. We got to see Kookaburra's up close. If you are into historical houses don't miss out on Bundell's Cottage built around 1860 on the Duntroon Estate for one of the families that tended to the station heard. Calthorpes House built around 1927 feels like you have stepped back in time. Everything has been left the way the Calthorpes had it when they were living there. Don't forget Parliament - old and new. Old Parliament House is very small compared to new Parliament house. Get to Question time at Parliament if you can as it is interesting to see where our taxes go......
Don't forget to visit the War Memorial - this will take at least a day if not more. We went for one and half days. We did a tour and it was very interesting to hear what the troops had to go through. You can also do research on family members, we did and found out some interesting stuff. If you have someone who passed away you can put a poppy near there name on the remembrance board. We did and it felt great.
