Ended up chatting at the barb with a London couple out on the town until it was time for dinner at the hotel's River Restaurant. I went for the four course tasting menu: Scottish beef carpaccio with matrons glades, celeriac remoulade and preserved cranberries -- pan seared cod fillet with cucumber tagliatelle, poached rock oysters, coriander and truffle sauce -- slow roasted pork belly with braised red cabbage, potato puree and wasabi sauce -- and for dessert, a caramel and pecan tart with cinnamon ice cream and chocolate sauce.
Then waddled back to my room. If I had another week here, I would be shopping for a gout stool.
Breakfast in the room, a quick pack and I'm off in a cab to Paddington to catch the Heathrow Express and begin a full day of airport and airline indignities from Heathrow's Terminal 3 to SFO and thence to SEA, so barring finding a suitcase full of money or falling desperately in love with a woman with a title and a chateau somewhere in the south of France or being mistaken for a agent of an unfriendly power by the Special Branch, this, as they say, is all she wrote.
