Valdivia, ca. 12 hours per bus south of Santiago is a truly "German" town whereas one can see and feel the influence of the indigenous Mapuche in many places. At the end of the 19th century a lot of Germans, initiated by the Chilenan goverment, immigrated to southern Chile (it is actually middle Chile). The landscape is like back in Bavaria or in Austria and those folks built houses looking also much the same like back home. Different to home are the see lions which get their snacks rihgt in the back of the fish market. Valdivia is a little and relaxed university town on the confluence of three rivers and not that far from the sea. Very cute.

Time Flies
Just got up to date on your entries, you've been to some great places since we last saw you. Easter Island looks mystical, I hope to see it one day. Sorry about the scuba diving email, couldn't resist :) Enjoy the rest of your travels, time flies doesn't it!
