Where I stayed
Our tour company had decided to cancel our overnight train to Bangkok and take us back to Chiang Mai, where we had already been and spent a few nights. So this morning we said good bye to Alex & Kathy who were heading off to Laos anyway and Peter stayed behind to make his own plans as he needed to get back to Bangkok to get his teeth finished and he couldn't get an answer from the dentist on the phone, so we all guessed they had closed up for a while.
So Julie & Damien, Sam and Christina & I got a mini bus back to Chiang Mai, where we went to a travel agents and booked two flights to Koh Samui (as we wanted to avoid Bangkok all together) at a cost of £120 each, one way
Transport sorted! What else could we do but go and get dinner, play some pool and get drunk!
All though there was a curfew on in Chiang Mai between 10pm and 6am we did manage to go out early enough to find a bar where we could play some pool, which then turned in to playing connect4 and Jenga with the staff as there was no one around. After me beating the staff at connect4 they bought a friend in which then started playing against me. She was a lot better than the staff and beat me a few times more. Then all off a sudden the bar shutters were pulled down and most of the lights turned off....."Shhhh Police, curfew, shhhh”
It was so funny, the bar staff were peeking under the shutters watching the police and standing on chairs looking through other parts of the shutters. Once the police had passed, the lights came on and we continued drinking for a little while longer. On the way home the streets were deserted and Sam decided he would do some press-ups in the middle of the road and took a few photos of the deserted streets.
