My last full day in Argentina was spent at El ChaltÚn.  This is a centre for trekking and my day trip really didn't do the place justice. We stopped at this place for coffee/bio-break on the way.  Apparently Butch Cassidy also stopped there some years ago, although possibly not for bio-break.

I decided to walk some of the FitzRoy path since this looked like it had the best prospects for a day walk.  The path is named for Mount FitzRoy which in turn is named after the commander of the Beagle whom you may remember from my Ushuaia post. Although history has perhaps been unkind to FitzRoy, it should be remembered that he was a very talented commander, navigator and surveyor.  Here are pics taken at and just after the start of the path.

I took the stake picture in honour of a Romanian friend who knows a thing or two about anticoagulants and Quantitative Structure Viscosity Relationships since he's from the Transyvanian part of Romania.  I lunched with a view of the FitzRoy Range and was joined by a small feathered scrounger.

The FitzRoy Range had a fair amount of cloud cover for most of the time that it was in view.  However the wind (you can see its effects in the left hand pic) meant that the scene was changing almost continously.

I'm now going to share my attempts at taking a self-shot and hope that you'll enjoy the sheer gimpy incompetence of it all.
