Another storm greeted us early Wednesday morning. It's always raining when we decide to make a move, which is what we had planned for today. So we packed up the wet tent and headed off further west towards the famous surf spot, Mundaka. We drove the scenic route again taking some of the narrowest, cliffhanging roads I have ever driven. We rarely got out of second gear. At times the road was flanked by small rock walls, so when oncoming traffic approached it got pretty tight at times, throw in more than a few morning walkers who thought they had right of way and it made for an interesting drive.

The thing is with big name surf spots, it makes no difference how good a break can be if there is no swell, and that's what we got. Yes, our flat spell was continuing. Mick was especially shattered as he had lugged a brand new board half way round the world to watch the Atlantic Ocean become a lake. The boys took solace in a couple of cold beers at a bar overlooking the small harbour in town. The main town square is quite small and from there numerous narrow alleys spread in all directions. The roads are a maze with one way streets, two way streets and streets that you couldn't even fit a car down. No Frisbee today, and with the boys leaving early the next day the days of power Frisbee could be over for a while, because I can only seem to get about ten minutes out of Mandy when we play. With no surf and no Frisbee, I'll start to really pack on the weight even more!!!

While we were staying at Mundaka we made friends with the couple camped across from us. Martin, a pom and his Spanish partner, Mercedes and their beautiful daughter India. They were cruising the coast in a 1970 VW. They had travelled in it in California and loved it so much they imported to the UK. Martin was also good enough to lend me a surfing guide to Europe, a fairly expensive book, and said to just post it back when we were finished with it. Cool people in a cool Kombi.

Thursday morning Mick and OJ left for Madrid where OJ's fiancé was finishing Uni later that day. So we were alone again for the first time since South Africa. Strange feeling. Time to give the liver a rest anyway after the last weeks. We didn't have a specific plan for where we were headed for today, and would have stayed at Bakio where we had lunch, except there was no camping ground there, so we continued on to Sopelana, not far north from Bilbao. Sopelana wasn't as nice as we expected, and the campground was fairly average too. We only stayed one night and moved on the next day. Not much else to say really.
