Today we kept the Malaysian Tourism industry afloat by visiting almost every tourist attraction in and around Kuala Lumpur. Our day started with a trip to the Petronas Twin Towers in the city centre. I had read on the website that tickets are free and are allocated on a first come first serve basis from 9am. No worries we thought when we got there to find only 30 or so in the line... until we realised that the office opened up at 8:30 and the digital sign said we were lining up for tickets valid for 3:45 pm.
So we canned that idea and went to the Bird Sanctuary and the Orchid Gardens instead which was hot and humid. There are some great birds to see but it's a bit sad to see some of them in cages. We hope to see some of these birds in the wild, such as Toucans and Macaws etc when we get to Costa Rica later in the year.

The afternoon was spent on an organised tour. First stop was a leather goods factory outlet where the host told crap jokes that no one laughed at... especially his Steve Irwin joke. (insert frosty silence here)

Next was a visit to the Selangor Pewter Factory, the largest in the world. It was pretty cool watching the craftsmen go through the different stages of production. They even had a scale model built from Pewter beer mugs of the Petronas Towers. They really love these towers, their image is everywhere.

After a few more stops we ended up at the Batu caves. A Hindu religious site only reached after walking up 272 very steep stairs to a massive cave. I'd love to say that it was a deeply spiritual moment when reaching the top but the truth is it was pretty smelly damp sort of place with hawkers trying to flog you pictures and models of the Petronas Towers...

The best part of the tour was our driver and guide Mohamed. This bloke knew everything about everything to do with Malaysia. Geography, history, culture, the Petronas Towers he knew it all.

Dinner was Indian and once again we ate too much for not much money. Soooo full can't move.

More soon...
