We picked up the campervan today and it is exactly the same as the previous one.

When we were planning this trip the intended route was to head to Exmouth which is 1270kms north of Perth, the main reason being to go snorkelling at the Ningaloo Reef which has exceptionally good write-ups in all the travel literature we have read and apparently well worth a visit.

But, since arriving in Australia, we have also taken on board what people tell us about routes and places, and it seems that once you go beyond a town named Kalbarri there is nothing for the next 820kms before reaching Exmouth, therefore the question is - is it really worth the journey when we have already snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef. This, coupled with the fact that in the short space of time that we have been in Australia there have been 4 shark attacks, caused us to have a re-think and we made the decision to go north only as far as Kalbarri and then head south.

We have also been told that the chances of being attacked by a shark are very small and that a person on a surfboard or a person with flippers on their feet is more likely to be a potential target because of the resemblance to a seal - but my thoughts turned towards images of 'Jaws' and I came out in a hot sweat just thinking about it, so there is no way I'll be donning flippers and a snorkel and entering the sea again while in Australia!

Cautious - Yes, Wimp - Yes, Will I be the victim of a shark attack - No!

Then to cap it all, we arrive at our site for the night at a tiny place called Guilderton, which I have to say is in an idyllic setting next to the Indian Ocean, only to be confronted by notices advising visitors to be cautious as it is snake season and to make sure you do not leave your tent unzipped, so I asked about the snakes and apparently there are alot around at the moment and they are poisonous...........Beam me up Scotty!.......... Though the thought of snakes doesn't seem to bother the locals, so I'll try and remain casual but still can't stop myself checking around as I walk along - just in case I'm one of the unlucky ones!

But hey on a more positive note - it's hot, the sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky, we are not in a tent and we are still having one hell of a good time!

Total kms today 115.
