Woke up and before I knew it Pete had checked the weather for today and as it was fine in the mountains he announced we would do a u-turn and go back to Mount Cook National Park to do the intended walk and enjoy the area.

I must add this decision was totally his own - I had not wittered and whined (honest) but upon hearing this announcement I secretly thought - YES!!  I was right, we should have stayed there yesterday, but I resisted all temptation to say - I told you so!

Needless to say if the weather hadn't been good at Mount Cook we wouldn't be returning today. As usual our activities are very weather dependant, but the sun was shining unlike yesterday when the cloud was so low the visibility was nearly non-existent.

Well there are mountains - and we have seen a few - and there are MOUNTAINS and today was definitely the latter, real picture postcard stuff.

The walk, along the Hooker Valley, took about 4 hours and we were surrounded by mountains and always heading towards Mount Cook.

We walked as far as the track went and had we got any closer we would have needed crampons and rope!

At the end of the track a glacier was descending down into a lake which had small icebergs drifting haphazardly.

Great day and probably the best walk we have done so far.
