Decided to spend a bit of time today exploring the Coromandel Peninsula because it is such a beautiful area, therefore chose our site for tonight only 90 Kms away on the other side of the Peninsula.

To get here involved driving across rugged ranges that run down the centre of the peninsula - talk about finding your 'sea legs' - I need to find my 'fear of sheer drops legs' and quick!

One of the places we visited today was a lovely little coastal harbour town - Whitianga, Mercury Bay - but so quiet.

Our site is at Hot Water Beach, slightly south of Whitianga. The beach is set atop a geothermal spring, therefore two hours either side of low tide you can dig in and enjoy a hot pool in the sand. Our timing was a bit out and we got there a bit late but still managed a warm paddle.

Since arriving in New Zealand we are having to rely almost totally on our IPad for updating the blog etc whereas in South America we were using hotel computers as much as possible, as they are much quicker. The written blog is OK to update here, but photos take absolutely ages and therefore not able to download as many as I would like. Luckily I will be able to remedy this at the end of our trip before I print my full journal.

Total Kms today 143.
