Headed southwards down the west side towards Auckland. Journey mainly uneventful and the scenery only OK in comparison to the last two days - apparently we need to get south of Auckland to get to more interesting places again.

Arrived at our site for tonight - Maipura Beach - approx 50 Kms north of Auckland. Nice little place and very close to the beach. This area is a gannet and seal wildlife refuge.

The beach is for surfers one way and has cliffs the other way. We walked along the cliffs and came across a huge gannet colony - may not sound very interesting but actually it was, the birds had chicks and they were so close we could nearly touch them - have to say though, the smell was not particularly pleasant.

Meeting some friendly and interesting locals who are pointing us in the right direction regarding where to go and where not to go.

Travelled 223 Kms today.
