Woke up today in a little place called Orewa, about 25kms north of Auckland. We paid an extra $3 each to have a pitch on the beach front - quite serene.

Yesterday was an interesting and tiring day, the campervan was late arriving and then Ken had to show us the ropes etc. After going to a supermarket to buy provisions we arrived at Orewa early evening.

Both of us were extremly tired - it had been 48 hrs since we had slept in a bed - only sleep we'd had was in cattle class on the aeroplane - certainly not quality sleep. So our first thoughts when we received the campervan were OMG - 8 weeks in THIS!! But now we have slept well, showered and sorted out our stuff, things are seeming a lot better.

Did I get the best bed - not so sure - I'm sleeping above the driving cab - quite roomy widthwise but not so roomy heightwise. Just getting up there and down again is an art form - wasn't laughing last night, but seeing the funny side this morning. Pete definately got the best bed, the table drops to make a large bed.

Headed north from Orewa and drove through some lovely countryside, a mixture of coastal and inland. Stopped for lunch at a place called Goats Island marine reserve - very picturesque. Ended up in a place called Tutukaka on the north east coast - small and quite with a pretty marina.

First impressions of New Zealand - very clean place and extremely friendly people.

Unable to download any photos - hopefully will catch up at a later date.

Travelled 235 kms.

Andy and Helen on

Hi you two. Been keeping up to date with the blog, plus roana's chats with you pete. Elaine the photos of him falling out of the raft were first class, personally i would have left him to float just a little longer myself !. I hope you enjoy New Zealand as much as we did. We loved it, the scenery and the people. Go steady in that speedy passion wagon. Take care. Love Helen and Marsh x

Good to know you are up and running - and things always look brighter after a good nights sleep. Look forward to photos. We're all well and feeling the first real signs of winter, sleet showers and very cold winds. Still Christmas is everywhere, so that's quite warming. Love to you both from me and him xxx
