Just arrived in Auckland, New Zealand after a 13.5 hour flight from Santiago, Chile.

The flight was OK as we left at 11.20 pm and therefore managed to get some sleep. As we flew over the International date line we have actually lost a day, leaving Santiago on the 4th and arriving in Auckland on the 6th at 04.50 am.

Had we been here a day earlier as first arranged, we would now be fast asleep in our hotel but as it is we are at present hanging around until 2.00 pm when we pick up the campervan. Unable to bring the time forward as we are hiring from a small company based in a town a fair distance away, so the guy is driving here this morning and then flying back from here.

Found free internet at the terminal so thought I would take advantage - not much else to do at 6.00 am.

While travelling in South America we mostly had readily available internet access in the hotels we stayed in, but even though we have most mod cons in t'van (for those who don't know, t'van is good old English terminology for a small home on four wheels) our budget doesn't stretch to including wi-fi.

Therefore we may have to rely more on internet cafes etc.

Looking forward to the next stage of our trip - 8 weeks in t'van - when we pick it up I'll make sure I'm first in so I can pick the best bed........Yippee.....good times ahead!!

Is there such a thing as a "best bed" in a van? Hope you are bimbling along the open roads and enjoying your first few days in NZ - bet the weather is better than here! Could be a hard act to follow after your wonderful time in S America, but I know you can make it even better. Take care and continue the fun xxx
