Where I stayed
MV CGA-CGM Manet
Monday 8 September
Eastern Fiji S 18° 26.6' W 179° 03.9'
Sighted land at about 09:30 and by 10:00 we were passing through the Oneata Channel, between Oneata and Moce Islands. For the next few hours we had various islands in sight, up to eight at one point, until at 12:30 we passed close to "Shark Island". (The Chief Engineer likes to tell me tales of sharks eating passengers; I respond with sharks demanding something tougher to get their teeth into, such as salty old engineers.)
We crossed the meridian at 02:56 UTC, at 18° 24.884' north. So I am now ahead of UK time (and every other time) and no longer in "Manet Time". It of course also marks the point of half-way round the world.
We went round in a few circles (actually, back-and-forth's) to waste time as the Lautoka pilot wouldn't join us before 03:30.
