Where I stayed
MV CGA-CGM Manet
Thursday 4 September
North-east of Southern Cook Islands S 18° 15.5' W 155° 33.4'
Fine day but quite a lot of swell - sea state about six, I suppose - and therefore too much rolling for comfort. May go for a quick look at the bows, but not conducive to quiet reading out there today, I'd guess.
We are now twelve hours behind the UK. In the bridge is the sign "Ship's clocks retard one hour" which would normally mean that tomorrow we'd be thirteen hours behind the UK. However, there is also a sign indicating that we will advance one day. (This is happening early, before reaching the International Date Line, because if they did it at the date line, the crew would miss their Saturday privileges.) So for a short period, we will be our own little time zone, "Manet Time". Which order they do the two things in, and whether there is therefore a one-hour Friday or not, I can't say. I may be "Confused of Cook Islands" for a couple of days!
