Hire bike setup completed last night and, at the last, the mechanic Cesaro decided to make a final adjustment. Hmmm not such a good idea with the outcome being a jammed cable - not to worry, we will take to the shop and have ready for you at 9am tomorrow morning. Fast forward...

Monday morning 9:00am - Cesaro: your bike is broken and we have a new one on the way; Romeo is bringing.

NOTE - ride sets off at 9:15am

9:02am - Romeo arrives with new bike, but no pedals and no seat.

9:04am - pedals appear from back of truck, have to re-oil and then fit to bike.

9:07am - have to find another seat. Yesterday's seat (carefully chosen) is on broken bike. Romeo brings out new seat, unlike any I have ridden before. Resigned that if brand is good enough for world champ, is good enough for me!

9:10am - Romeo fixing seat but this is a fiddly operation and takes time.

9:12am - levelling seat to get it just right. Decide near enough is not good enough so make a small adjustment (bang on seat with fist). Thumbs up from me!

9:14am - no puncture kit and tyres need inflating. Mad scramble..

9:16am - relieved, roll out to join more cyclists and a starting photo

Ride 100kms and climb 1500m. Urbino is our destination today; it is an academic city, founded in 1506 and is a World Heritage Site.

Sounds a lots of fun Peter!
Make sure you register all the KMs on the bike and steps walking with a pedometers :)
