Another place we had been told to definately visit in Uruguay was Cabo Polonio... this was a small beach restort that was full of hippies and sealions but had no electricity and running water...

We took a short bus journey (1 hour) south of Punta Del Diablo and got dropped off at a station... the only way to get to Cabo beaches was over lots of sand dunes! So we had to get these massive sort of military trucks that had huge wheels that drove us over them! This was awesome and we got the best seats at the front (over the top of the truck) and Ash sat at the back and grabbed on for her life... she looked so scared (if you look at the pics she is grabbing on so tight)

About 15 minutes later we arrived at the beach and the truck drove along the beach pretty fast... everytime you went over a bump you had smacked your back on the steel bars... so much fun though!

When we got there there was a group of about 11 of us from Diablo so we had heard the cheapest and best thing to do was to rent a beach hut for the night... we all walked around the small village that was full of hippies with dreadlocks playing guitars and pipes, there were lots of small stalls there where the hippies were selling hand made crafts and clothes... there were several small restaurants and bars and a tiny supermarket where you can buy food and beers!! We approached a lady from a bar and asked her if she new where to rent a beach hut from... she walked to the other side of the hill and showed us two huts... they were brilliant.. each slept about 7 people.. ours had a large kitchen, 2 double rooms and a top floor with 3 single beds.. the place had an outdoor tiolet and shower.. a guy came around and filled up the water tank for about 5 pounds each.. there was no flush on the toilet so if you used it you had to fill the bucket up from the well outside....

We had lunch at one of the restaurants and then bought some beers and batteries from the shop for the ipod speakers... then we all just chilled out listening to music and had a few vodkas in the sun!

Around the village there where two main beaches.. if you stood on the beach you could see two small islands that were full of sealions... when we walked on the beaches we found quite a few dead ones that had been washed up by the sea.... around the corner of the beach there where lots of rocks... we climbed up them and saw sealions swimming in the sea... one was basking on the rocks and another was trying to get up to join him... we all just sat down and watched this sealion trying to climb up but everytime he got to the rocks a huge wave would knock him back into the water... after 15 minutes of failed attempts he finally made it and we all cheered!!

There was also a big lighthouse there that you could climb up inside and go right to the top... this was pretty cool but hard work climbing the spiral staircase and at the top it was very windy so you had to hold on tight.... The photos show the view from the top of all the beach and the huts!!

That night we made a big camp fire and bought a huge fish from a fisherman.. we attempted to make a bbq and we prepared the fish with garlic, peppers, salt and butter, wrapped it in tinfoil and tried to cook it... unfortunately the fish was frozen so it took ages to cook and by then we were all too drunk to eat... Ash and I tried it and the bits that were cooked were really good....

We all lay down outside and looked up at the stars... I have bever seen stars like that before... as there was no lights anywhere for miles it was so clear and it felt like you could literally grab them... there were so many It was breathtaking..... I cannot really explain in words how beautiful they looked but it made everybody speechless.... amazing
