After quick visit to laundry to make sure we had enough clean clothes for the long weekend, got rid of the trusty vehicle and a quick and as it happens (as we found out later) unnecessary lunch at Subway we jumped in a cab and headed off to the cruise terminal for our 3 day excursion to Ensenada Mexico.
Expecting long delays at getting on the boat we were pleasantly surprised when it was all pretty easy, bags taken from us at the curb, quick loo stop and then checked in, photos taken all in our cabin all in under 30 minutes.
Leaving the majority of our bags at the Varden meant we had plenty of room in our cabin, king size bed, and large window so not at all claustrophobic which was my biggest concern Lunch was being served on the Lido deck so even though we had already done it once we managed a second lunch as you do! Lido deck is where all the young ones hang out so we negotiated half naked already well into their 3rd drink young bodies and found ourselves a plate full of food and somewhere to eat it ordered a cocktail and got ourselves ready to enjoy the weekend.
I had broken my nail so went to get that fixed Stephen, Andrea and Garry took advantage of a free 30 second massage while I got the slowest nail fix and pedicure in the world, interrupted at the end by the mandatory safety briefing which was a bit freeky as I ended up by myself in this huge mass of people knowing nobody and being sober while most were already pretty well half cut.
A wander round the ship to familiarise ourselves with the layout and then it was time for dinner and of course another cocktail. Food is yum and the waiters are real hard cases, ours noticing Stephens QPR shirt spent most of his time yakking with Stephen about soccer, keeping them both entertained.
A play in the Casino and then it was time for bed. Boat moving a little but pretty stable after a couple of cocktails not sure if it is me or the boat moving. Slept pretty well but awake early as usual.
Had booked the Sea Kayak tour in Ensenada so had to be up and onshore by 8.45am. Bus took us through the city to La Bufadora blow hole area where we got kitted up to get wet! City was an eye opener, VERY rustic....certainly wouldn't want to holiday there on our own, could easily be in the wrong part as most of it looks like the wrong part!
The area the Kayaking was in looked to be more upmarket but still very different to what we are used to. You can see how the harsh heat affects the homes, roads, vehicles etc. Its all very dusty and worn.
The boys looked lovely in their wet suits....well they thought they looked lovely...really not so much. Was great fun, there was a bit of a swell so it was interesting at times riding the waves, lots of kelp which was less fun to get through. Saw some huge orange jellyfish, and seals and watched the blowhole do its thing. Was ok while we were moving but sitting still in the swell did make me feel a little seasick...and boy did our butts hurt from sitting in the kayak for over an hour! Stephen and I had managed to stay pretty dry until the last second riding the waves into the shore one completely swamped our kayak....was hilarious if a little cold!
The bus dropped us into the tourist part of town, was fun trying to haggle for a cheaper price I am sure we were pretty bad at it did manage to get one bargain when one guy tried to sell me a bracelet for $38 and I convinced him that all Stephen and I had left between us was $12 and 2 quarters! When we had finished we walked back to the boat, one little boy walked along beside Stephen for ages with his little box of wares ...$1, no thanks, $1, no thanks go away please, $1 no thanks, $10, no, $5, no thanks.....finally he went away....loved the way the price went up instead of down when we said no lol.
Just enough time to shower and change into our pretty clothes for dress up dinner on the boat, just as well I bought a couple of dresses while on holiday. Garry nearly didn't get in as he forgot to pack long pants,he got hidden in a corner. Tonights waiter was a real character kept us in fits of laughter most of the evening. A couple more cocktails, play in the casino and a comedy show finished of the evening. Really enjoyed our day and went to bed absolutely shattered.
