Little bit of a sleep in, didn't get to breakfast till after 8 which was nice. Then a leisurely swim in the pool for Andrea and I while the boys went off to sort out the car at Avis (its been making an odd noise particularly at slow speeds). They came back with same type of car but nice shiny red one and a few more bells and whistles, should have changed it weeks ago!
Carmel is a few minutes down the road so decided to head there for the day. The beach is gorgeous so had an hour or so just laying in the sun, Andrea and I dipped our toes but the water was arctic, a few hardy kids swimming but definitely way to cold for grownups! Stephen managed a snoring nap on the sand as only a man can.
We walked up the main street and found a bakery/cafe for lunch really yummy yummy 'normal kiwi food' sandwich and american cake/sconey thing and cuppa - almost real food, really hit the spot. Then a wander round the shoppy shops, decided that we wouldn't splurge in the handmade cowboy boot and jacket shop as the boots that took my eye were $3500 and the jacket that took Stephens was $800, absolutely gorgeous but just a wee bit out of our range!
Did however find some lovely earrings that after some thought and a bit more of a wander round decided to buy, (a little bit pricey for an instant decision), the obligatory t-shirt, magnet and sweatshirt and our shopping was done for the day.
A drive around the narrow little streets of Carmel, completed our visit, might not bother moving here as very average houses seem to be a couple of mil plus and the of course the closer you get to the water the bigger the mil number! Lovely place tho. We then did the 17 mile Pebble Beach drive, water round this way very wild and lots of picture stops, definitely worth a look.
Back to Monterey and our hotels free happy hour, Stephen, Garry and I took full advantage, 3 Sangrias making me just a little fuzzy, even Andrea managed a Long Island Tea which looked a bit yuck but tasted ok. Moving seemed to be a bad idea at this stage so ordered from the Cafe and a nice young man called Kai brought our food, which we thought ironic but I think even explaining the meaning of his name he really didn't get.
So that was our big day off, we did get dinner before 9 so that was a definite plus, but still didn't make it to bed before 11 but it certainly felt a bit more relaxing than the last week.
A couple more days and we hit the cruise so that should be a nice slow down in the sun before going home to freeze our bums off!
