Stopped to buy some cherries at a tiny little town and decided that we would eat lunch there but nowhere to sit so ended up just sitting in the car with our doors open.
Turned off toward Crater Lake the road ahead seemed to travel straight to the sky - and then we drove up and up and up and up......fantastic views and then the lake! Amazing so blue it makes the sky look washed out and wimpy....never seen water that blue ever....looks like someone has painted it or filled it with blue food colouring
Lots of photo ops and at one pull out some idiot left his car in drive and didn't put on the handbrake....another idiot (Stephen) thought he might run to stand in front of the run away car to stop it...fortunately the owner managed to stop the car before our idiot got run over!
Still a bit of snow around and the urge to slide down it was too much so we dug out our yellow rain ponchos from the rainy day swing bridge walk and slid down on them....excellent fun....could only manage once each tho as jandals are less than ideal footwear for playing in the snow...the toe end of mine froze solid and our feet were in agony! Bit of a shame cos we could have been there hours otherwise...we seemed to start something as a family with a pile of kids showed up as we finished and wanted a turn so we gave them one of our ponchos as we left.
Last stop was the obligatory gift shop of course!
Continued on and stopped at really the only decent size town for ages Medford about 20 miles from the Californian border.
On the way to find a Best Western we went past a nice looking Marriot Hotel and stopped in for a quote...cheaper than the rubbishy hotel that we had the night before and looks comfortable and QUIET!
Nice pool area had a swim, put on the laundry and headed out for dinner....and its after 9pm again!
Of course where we had picked had stopped serving but they had a bar area that did nice lighter meals which we were happy with, food was yum atmosphere was great and we headed home for the best night sleep in three days...hooray!
