Halfway through the nite, Dirk gets an attack of explosive Diaoriah not really something I want to share with my host. So it is continuous trips to the bathroom and I put my earplugs in, some things you really don't want to hear.
Due to a disturbed sleep we wake up at 10am, the blinds are down so it is still very dark and I was unaware how late it is. He calls one of the closest horse riding places and we arrange for me to do a 1 ½ hour ride through the forest at 2pm. Dirk can barely get out of bed except to well, no details necessary, so I decide to head into the old part of town and take some photos and explore. I grab some lunch at a local bakery, only 3.20 Euro or $5 for a roll and a drink.
I call Dirk at 1pm to get directions to the Honey Bee Ranch and he informs me he is feeling a bit better and will walk me there. So we meet in the centre of town and head out. It takes about 40 minutes to get there up and down some hills through pasture but I get to see what I will be riding around.
Justine is the daughter of the owners, she is 24 and she takes me out on ride. First we have to brush down the horses and put on their bridles and saddles, it is nice to not have a horse already prepared for you and to get to bond with your horse before riding. The horses are American Quarter Horses with Western Saddles. We cannot put the stirrups up any further for me so alas there is not much running more walking. But we go through some beautiful countryside and have a great chat. She speaks perfect english as her mother has worked in many places around the world doing SAP.
When we get back to the Ranch almost 2 ½ hours has passed. She does not have any change of my 50 Euro note so says it is free. I insist on getting the money to her but then her Granny arrives and we find we have change. I text Dirk I am running late and I will go into town and then come back in about an hour or so.
I walk back into town, it is lovely to walk through forests and pastures and not be avoiding people and looking up at buildings all the time. I get into town and buy some strawberry cake for dessert and then head back to Dirks.
He is still sick poor bugger, and not very good at being sick either. I offer him some of my Immodium but he says it doesn't work. I ask him if he wants me to leave, he says it is okay to stay, in hindsight perhaps I should have gone to Heidelberg a day early.
I walk to the Supermarket called 'PENNY MARKT' and buy some soup and water and do some sightseeing on the way back. We check my mail and I have two responses for Heidelberg so my host for Heidelberg is set and I decide to leave before lunchtime as I have had enough of Dirk and Buchen. We decide to watch the Matrix and go to bed at 9pm.
