What a Sunday drive!
We started our drive by driving up in the Andalucian mountains. We drove up to Comares, a town of 1700 people who live 2400 feet up on a mountain top. This is a really cool place where the locals speak of only seeing the backs of flying birds. This place is really charming with its narrow streets and tiled and whitewashed buildings. The drive is exciting with a narrow and winding road accompanied with breathtaking scenery over the mountains, hills, valleys with the Mediterranean in the background.
We drove back down and continued on to the beach! We headed a bit east still in Torre del Mar. This time we stopped at a grocery store for lunch and headed down to the paseo maritimo. This is the promenade on the beach where locals dress up in their fine clothes, have lunch, then stroll down the walkway along the beach. We sat on a bench and soaked up the rays while watching this nice family custom. It made us think how they really took the time to enjoy life.
The kids played on the beach and in the water and once again were the only ones in the water. They collected an assortment of shells and rocks which they plan to bring home.
