Where I stayed
Shimada Minshuku, Narai
July 30 to August 5, 2008.
Solo cycle trip through the Kiso river valley in rural, mountainous Nagano prefecture, Japan. I also hiked part of the old Nakasendo Way, a stone path created for walkers in Edo era, so they could get through the high mountain passes between Kyoto and Tokyo.
I chose this route because the old post towns along the way are known for their historic wooden architecture, particularly Narai. Charming and beautiful. True, rural Japan...simple slow life!
