It has cooled off a bit as we approach Harwich, but it is still dry.

I get a bit carried away and think we are closer than we really are and will arrive a bit early. I phone home with an ETA, only to have to change it when we arrive on time.

Just have to disembark, clear UK Border Control, and HMRC (customs), then we are free to head for home.

It takes me about an hour and a half to get home to Norwich.

One last unload so that I can get the bike in the garage and that it is it  the trip is done but not dusted.

There is an awful lot of washing and kit cleaning to be done in the following week.

Poor old Suzy my ever abused but reliable motorcycle is in a right state. The tyres are just about bald, I had expected that, in fact I was not 100% sure that they would make it when I set off. The chain and sprockets are in need of replacement and an oil change and service are needed. That and a good clean, the poor old gal is covered in volcanic ash.

How was the trip?
I enjoyed it.

The late spring and closed roads was unforeseen but not an insurmountable problem and the weather did improve all the way through the trip.

Iceland is not a pretty place but a place of harsh rugged beauty with very variable weather conditions and some strong winds.
There are plenty of places of interest, plenty of wild unspoilt countryside with few crowds and birds in abundance for twitchers.

I would have preferred not to have been in such a rush, it is not the way I like to travel, but sometimes you do have only a limited time. The once a week ferry obviously is a big impact.

I hope this blog has been of some interest, and apologise for my poor writing skills and style. I would like also to apologise for the late publishing. This was due to the difficulty and expense of internet access. It was a very short trip so it was easy to catch up.

Anyway I did it, got the T shirt and if it encourages anyone else to have a go then I am more than happy.
