We left Seydisfjordur on the 93 a fully paved road meandering up through the snow covered mountains and stopped at Egilsstadir for provisions.
It was about 08:50 when we arrived and the supermarket was still closed.
I crossed the road to a phone store for my sim card but that did not open until 10:00am. Back to the supermarket which had just opened up. Stock up on bread, ham, cheese and pasta sauces, plus "Skyr" the not so famous but extremely good Icelandic quality yogurt. Later to become an addiction!
They are fairly laid back when it comes to opening but stay open later.
Deciding not to wait for the phone shop to open, we moved on from Egilsstadir, onto the No.1. This is the main road that circles the whole island and is reputed to be tarmac all the way.
I had originally planned a counter clockwise circle of the island but had been persuaded that the weather was predicted to be bad in the north for the coming week, so opted for the clockwise southern route.
We travel the first 25km and then the road turns to gravel. A car towing a caravan is turning round at this point, I don't think he fancies the ride. From the map there looks be another road out of Egilsstradir which could be tarmac and rejoins the No.1 at Breidhdalsvik on the coast.
Further up the gravel No.1 road we stop to take a picture of the first accessible waterfall we come across. Soon to suffer waterfall overload!
