Not that I don't like the idea... it is just that the result is... wait, I will see more before I say bad things.
Thursday - I went to the Museo Gurvich. Gurvich was a pupil of Garcia Torres, and he too worked on big frescoes, following the two main lines: Painting/Sculpture/Architecture must be fusioned... and abstraction/symbolism is the key to expressing the world, bringing the particular to the level of the universal or something like that.
Some of the sculpture-architecture mix did catch my eye, but otherwise I really don't appreciate the huge frescoes, from Gurvich and from Garcia Torres alike. I had already seen some of Garcia Torres at the MALBA in BsAs, and did not like it either. I will go to the Garcia Torres museum anyway, as it is in Montevideo. As for Gurvich, I still like some of
his painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Friday - Before leaving to Punta del Este I went to the Garcia Torres Museum. Very interesting. I think the point I am missing is the "universalism" that he is trying to reach through the use of symbols. They just don't talk to me.
Before that Torres Garcia had been a proeminent artist in Catalunya, and then Paris.
