Macquaries Point, where e had planned to go to see the firework, was offering one of the "million dollar views". Admittance was limited to 25.000 people, and the gates opened at 10am. We had planned to be there at 10, but with the "normal" inertia delay we got there at 11.30. There was already a queue. A huge queue. We started walking up the queue, not seeing the end. And walked. And walked. Then we saw the end... but it was not: the queue was turning at a right angle into a lane, then into a park, and back on the same street a bit further.
Saying we were a kilometer from the entrance might not be overestimated. The queue was very slow as they were checking all bags for alcohol and glass. It ewnt faster after a while, and we got in at 2pm, after 2h30 queueing.
Once there, we had only 10 more hours to wait until New Year...
We stayed on the grass, with the crowd growing around us, and we drank beers and wine that was on sale on the site, and we slept too... The site was lacking a stage with music: you could feel that everyone wanted to party, but there was nothing to get people going. Tomo was quite succesful at organizing crowd waves with hos megaphone, but that was about all.
Came the 9pm firework, very nice. Then there was a boat parae, with dozens of boats passing under the bridge with lots of light decorations.
We moved a bit before 11 to a perfect spot, from where we could see fully the Opera House and the Bridge.
The firework was huge, really great, impressive. After 5 minutes of firing from the islands and the bridge, the fireworks went off from the skyscrappers... and not only a few ones from the highest towers: the complete skyline went off, it was really amazing.
After that there was a million people in the streets of Sydney, we walked around for a bit and then went to party at the club we had booked tickets for.
