Three out of four of my group wanted to go to the jungle. The fouth one did not say no... so we took a 4 day tour.
Preliminaries where a night in the bus to Lago Agrio, oil and gas capital of Ecuador and backstage of Columbian guerillas, then 3hours in a jeep, and 3 hours in a pirogue at full speed on Rio Agua Rico and finally up Rio Cuyabeno.

We were in a "lodge", meaning that there is a main building for kitchen/living/eating, and many smaller ones for rooms, all of them built in traditional jungle fashion.
A few solar panels, a pump for the water, and a few gas canisters for cooking, and the confort was ace. In this kind of places the food is good and plenty, the beds are comfy, the mosquito nets have no holes (question of life or death, haha).

Basically we got up ridiculously early every morning to go on the river by boat and see animals, we walked in the jungle to see animals, we climbed up a tower to see animals, we took the boat again and again to see animals, and to see animals again, and we went walking in the jungle at night, and on the river at night... to see animals.

And animals we saw, plenty of them, always with the same magic that you have to spot them, follow them, see them from far, loose them and see then again and then loose them and itīs like they were never there... itīs really magic to observe animals in their natural habitat, it requires patience and can be frustrating, but it is so much... natural, litteraly.

Water birds, oropendulas who make nests hanging from trees like drops, martin pescadors, paradise birds (also called stinky turkeys), arras, parrots, tucans, beautiful little swallows (hirondelles), red headed woodpeckers and many others that we learned to recognise by their look, by their noise.

Same thing with the monkeys: squirrel monkeys, black tamarins, capucins, red howler monkey...
