It is so wonderful to read your posts about your walk. I am so glad that you got to go to Woolman and talk to the students and all. I wish I was on the West Coast so that I could see meet with you but no I am in school and home is not in Santa Cruz anymore. look forward to reading more. Rebecca

No more SUV for me
Hi, Ruah and Louis. I enjoyed your talk in San Francisco and was feeling pretty good about my relationship to the Earth here, but I mentioned that I was going to work at a national park in Oregon, and on my way out, Louis asked if I would have to commute from a distance. I said no, that I would live within the park and in a community, so THAT was okay, but that I probably would buy an SUV for groceries and to visit friends beforehand... and as I spoke I realized how lame that sounded... and I trailed off with 'Well, we'll see.' Thanks, Louis, for reminding me by your example that there are other options! I'll be renting a car for that road trip beforehand and have already worked out with my future boss (who, as a park ranger, is sympathetic to my low-carbon diet) how I can carshare for grocery runs and even borrow a car for weekend trips occasionally. And I will save a ton of money in the process!
