Well a big hello to all!!!  Before I get started this is the first time I have used this so forgive me if firstly it sucks, secondly if I stuff something up :-)

Well the plane trip was soooo long and thankfully we went straight through customs only to be harrased incessently by taxi drivers.  Long story cut short, got into our hotel which was in Khao San Road in Bangkok.  I wont go into the details of Bangkok as I head back there in just over a week for another 4 days so that will all be subject to a blog of it's own!

Right now I am sitting in a sweet resort about 100 metres from Patong Beach Phuket.  Got a great deal and the hotel looks like an old school asian building with free breakfast and the grounds are just perfect.

Anyway, back to the story!

We landed in Phuket and headed down to a place called Kata Beach for 3 days which was great.  Beautiful beach with some nice restaurants right on the beach.
The spot was right on the beach and built under this huge tree similar to a fig.  Just sat there sipping on cocktails looking up along the beach.  Street vendors were everywhere but that is just Thailand.  Sat on the beach for a day under some umbrellas and went for a swim for 45 mins or so and got so burnt.  The water is just perfectly clear and the temperature just cant be beat. We stayed in a dodgy hotel that looked good and was recommended by our travel agent, however the room was a little lacking but did the job.  We didnt find much nightlife on this beach so we had to amuse ourselves by pub crawling and having cocktails at each bar and playing connect four.  That game is just everywhere for some reason!!!  Sat in the middle of a strip of nightclubs playing connect four with the bartender the other night.  Damn they are good too.  They kicked our asses!

So after a few relaxing days at Kata Beach we headed to Patong Beach to see if we could get a bit more action.     We certainly found it!!!  It ranges from Thai Girls (really boys) walking round the street and dancing on bars, cars with speakers advertising bars/thai boxing, sidewalks that are cut off by all the street vendors (forcing you to walk on the crazy road), bars everywhere, people just everywhere, and to top it off a great beach!!!  We are all starting to love it here as there is so much to do and eating is just so much fun and comes with about every combination of food you could think of.  There are fresh lobsters, prawns and crab on the sidewalks that you can get cooked up on the spot.  Half our fun has just been from our meals !!!  Speaking of which I have been trying just about every curry I can get my hands on so am starting to get used to a bit more spice.  Some of the currys I have had are just amazing and some are amazingly hot.  I got absolutely smashed by one curry, I swear it was so hot that it was made by some demons.  Lucy and Matt took one bite and just about died.  I managed to finish about 3/4 of it and ended up sweating and feeling faint.  It was worth it!!!

We all cant really believe how many bars there are and we have been trying our best to hit them all, it is just so much fun and the bartenders tend to be good value with their broken english.  Last night my bartender was trying to get me to buy her drinks and my cousin Matt has been chatted up a few times by Thai girls (really boys).      Is a little disconcerting when you are sitting at a bar having a drink, (playing connect four of course) and Thai girls (really boys) are dancing on the bar right beside you.  We have had some chats to them and commented to them that they look georgious which they seemed to appreciate !!!

The traffic in Thailand is amazing/character building!  Lanes mean nothing, pedestrian crossings mean nothing, basically it freaks you out and you need to wait for a break in traffic to do anything.  Apparently lots of people are killed each year in Thailand on the roads.  After five minutes of being in Thailand and it is completely understandable.  Within the first 5 minutes out of the airport, all 3 of us completely shat ourselves on the highway as our taxi driver was doing about 130 and almost got smashed between a truck and merging car.  Luckily we were going fast enough we sped through the middle before we got smashed :-)

Back to Patong - Due to paying what we felt was a bit much for drinks we finally managed to build up the courage to buy a bottle of Thai whiskey.  Damn glad we did as it is $10 a bottle and here is the best bit, it goes great with coke and is strong!  Have started playing Texas Hold em Poker but instead of betting with cash we have been betting drinks.  Best drinking game I have come up with ever!!!  Although it is a little skewed as we end up betting 5 to 10 drinks on a hand at the start as we want to get boozed and then towards the end we tend to fold as we are feeling a little under the whether :-)

I wont go into too much more detail about Patong itself as you get the idea and the pics will probably tell more anyway so will write about our island tour we took yesterday.

Lucy and I took a tour out to the Phi Phi islands in the Andaman Sea.  It cost about $100 but was well worth it.  We were taken out by speed boat straight to Maya Bay across a perfectly still ocean and perfectly sunny day!
Maya Bay for those who dont know is the bay where the movie "The Beach" was filmed and is very famous.  More importantly you really cant describe it so I will let the pics do most the talking.     Just stunning, I really cant say much more.  We then spent the rest of the day just crusing from island to island snorkelling and and chilling on beaches.  One of the best was this island you could have walked around in not even 5 minutes, in the middle of no where and was only sand.     However the Thai have managed to get some bars onto it along with deck chairs and waiters shouting "pina corradas?".  I spent all my time there snorkelling instead which was well worth it.  The reefs were not quite as good as the Barrier Reef although they were pretty awesome thats for sure.  Saw everything you could imagine as there was so many fish.  Of the three spots we snorkelled they ranged from snorkelling around the bottom of massive limestone cliffs to out over open reef.  We made friends with our guide and he offered to take us out to the "good reef" and he didnt disappoint.  In about 5 minutes we were swimming with black tip reef sharks and gropers.  The sharks would have been about 4 feet in length and the closest I got (even though I was chasing them) was about 5 metres.  Probably a good thing now that I think about it but at the time I was after them.  Ended up seeing about 10 or 15 sharks.  Oddly enought I wasnt scared at all although if they were a little larger I may just have shat myself as we were a way from land and other people.  Lucy was most displeased when I told her (once we got back to land) that they are not a harmless shark....  Took a bunch of photos on a disposable underwater camera so I have proof!  Just a great relaxing day seeing island after island and I took so many photos!  I will be remembering that day for a long time.

Well that is about all for Phuket as we leave for Koh Samui tomorrow.  Koh Samui is meant to  be the party town and we have the full moon party (on of the biggest parties in Thailand) on Sunday night so we are looking forward to that!

Tonight we will be having some more Sang Som (Thai Whiskey), Poker, food and hitting the clubs for the last time in Phuket.  Unfortunately for us the bars have been shutting at 2 due to the Terrorism threats at the moment so that has really put a downer on things but the nights are still just great.  I think from memory the clubs usually shut sometime after 4 or 5.  Mum/Dad, dont worry, all is well and we are all alive and well!   None of us have ever felt unsafe at any time and it is great to be here!

Hope you all enjoy the blog and that it is not too long.  More over that it is actually of some interest to everyone!  There should be a bunch of photos I have uploaded you can view also!  Feel free to make comments on my blog too and I would always love to hear from everyone!

Having the best time here !!!

Cheers and dont forget to check out the other pics and to send me an email/comment!
