We got off the grass after another night of rain but it was touch and go and required strategically placed mats, runners and a trolley bag.
We are back here partly because our month-long motorway vignette will expire in a few days time and so that I can try - and maybe buy! - a push scooter.
When we were here a couple of weeks ago we were charged 27€ for three nights. This time the charge is still 27€ - but for two nights ..... Shortly after getting here the sun came out to play - hip hip hip hooray.

01/06/2013. Our spell in the sun was short lived. Back came the rain with a vengeance. We went in the van to the scooter shop in the afternoon but of course it had closed for the weekend from lunchtime.

02/06/2013. Yes, still - and harder than ever. We wellied and waterproofed up and caught the tram to town. Most places shut but we went into a bar to get rid of our last couple of hundred Czech Koruna. Needless to say we decided to have a last Czech lunch before realizing we were in a Spanish restaurant. We had to use a card but the tip took care of some of our cash however. The meal was very good although I do prefer my duck pink. The couple on the next table got through a bottle of water, two bottles of wine and one of champagne. A chap sharing his table with a laptop ordered a bottle of water, a bottle of champagne and a large cigar. We have frequently seen people smoking in bars and restaurants.
We seem to have mistakenly put our new tyre pump into storage and as one of our two new front tyres - bought just before setting off in April - has been looking decidedly flat we bought a new, cheap pump at a Globus supermarket. Just as well. The near side front tyre was showing 90lbs psi and the offside about 15. This after my asking the fitter what he'd put in and being told 68lbs psi. I'll check in a few days - may have a slow puncture. Meanwhile I've upped the low one to 82lbs.

03/06/2013. Beginning to get a little concerned. Fortunately we are able to pick up various satellite broadcasted news programmes, all of which tell of widespread flooding, the worst of which is in Moravia where we are. Prague is badly affected and we have seen on the news the now submerged little spit of land we were camped on a few days ago. We had intended heading back into Germany today and making for Passau. Our plans have changed as Passau is at the confluence of three rivers, the banks of one of which at least having burst.
We stopped off at the bike shop in Plzen and I succumbed, choosing a Mibo Mastr folding scooter. Having chosen, came the paying. Not straightforward when the shop doesn't accept cards. In the end the pleasant young owner took me in his car to a bank. The first bank suggested we try a bank further down the road. This second bank told us that for the last four months Czech banks have not been allowed to change currency. I ended up using our debit card in an ATM, not a cheap option but sweetened a little as it helped me secure a discount on the scooter, which I've as yet to try out.
Come this evening and we will somewhat sadly have left Cz. We think it's a lovely country - beautiful countryside and pleasant, friendly people. Indeed, should I ever revisit and use public transport, I won't carry a stick. Not only children but men - and women - of all ages up to not much less than mine, would insist that I took their seat. Couldn't be doing with it!. Other curiosities - no dead animals on the roadside, no live ones in the countryside - we scarcely saw a cow or sheep - and barely a hawk in the sky. A country with a prosperous feel - lots of building going on, with typical generous facilities in the way of sports stadiums and tennis courts and swimming baths for young and not so young.
Parked up tonight at a Stellplatz at Bayreuth, so back in the country of eis cafés, no wifi and no bank cards but not before having to take an 'umleitung' to avoid a flooded road.

04/06/2013. Having arrived at Bayreuth in the rain, we left in the rain - leaving visiting the town for another year. Tonight we are at Gaildorf - again, not for the first time, but a nice aire and an attractive small town. And the sun is shining - wonderful. D needed some shopping and walked to town whilst I trundled along on my new scooter. Very pleased with it, though it's a b******d to fold. No knee pain and I've been a fair way on it. The mobility scooter can wait awhile!

05/06/2013. Mössingen. A strange town seemingly without a centre. We are surrounded by tennis courts, swimming baths, football pitches but only a few scattered shops and cafés. We've today seen hang gliders, gliders and, landing in an adjacent field a few minutes ago, a hot air balloon. Another hot sunny day and last night I collected my first mossie bite. Ten minutes after draining my shoulder it floated into the beam of my torch. A delightfully executed up swinging backhand Federer-style with my electric racquet resulted in a satisfying crack, flash and sizzle and the slight whiff of chargrilled insect.
