Arrived in New Orleans the weekend of the Voodoo Music festival - the city's biggest few days of the year with the exception of Mardi Gras. Made it out to see for the last day of the festival to see great acts, among them REM. However, my musical highlight of the weekend was in a tiny bar which seemed to have more people playing than listening. An incredible sound and the star of the show was a washboard player called Chaz - the locals were tellin me that some of the clowns running the international jazz festival didn't give him a gig so musicians and friends set up their own alternative "Chazfest" with him as the centrepiece.
