Stayed in a lovely hostel just outside the main centre. First evening saw us take a walk which eventually led us up a very steep hill (phew) to a surveying point which is marked as the 'Centre of New Zealand' being approx. 760 km north/south and 105 km east/west. Saturday we strolled into town and around their street market which was interesting. I took myself off to this amazing bead shop, but then spent the rest of the afternoon walking back to the hostel (more phew's).
