Next day saw us travelling the remaining distance down the North Island to Wellington. Our motel (as recommended by Rhonda) is a 1906 built hotel that in recent years has become a sort of hostel. Guests have the use of it's kitchen and dining area (similar to what we are used to in backpacking hostels) but kitted out as an industrial kitchen - walk in fridge for instance. It's quite bizaare!!!! (spooky almost). Walked down the hill into the town and found the old Wellington Cable Car and took a trip up on this to the Botanic Gardens (the best in NZ to date!).
Day 2 we took the opportunity to drive around the various headlands south of the City, approx. a 40 km circuit, stopping at numerous bays and inlets. Spent the afternoon walking along the waterfront of downtown Wellington.
Our final day here has been spent visiting Wellington's National Museum call Te Papa. It's a brilliant museum for kids especially (so ideal for Paul) as it has lots of interactive stuff going on.
We also found time for the Maritime Museum where we watched a video on the 1968 Ferry Disaster as it entered the harbour from South Island (tomorrow we travel by Ferry to the South Island!!!!).
Bye for now as we leave the North Island which we have thoroughly enjoyed during the past seven weeks (where has the time gone!)
