Time for a new adventure.
The main focus this time will be exploring the National Parks of South West USA in a RV (Camper Van) but we first start off with a visit to New York and San Francisco. Although it has been 8 years since our last visit to New York it still feels like sort of coming home. This time we have a hotel right next to Time Square. It is still overwhelming to see all these lights, big billboards and the crowd of people. In the 2 days that we had in NY we visited the MoMA ( Museum of Modern Art) with the 5Th floor as a definite highlight with some great works of Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Matisse, Renoir, Kandinsky and Mondrian to name a few. A stroll in Central Park was also on the list as well as a lunch in Bryant Park, one of our favorite parks in NY. Off course we checked out the status of the new towers at ground zero. They are quite impressive. Eight years ago we didn't go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island so this time we made up for that. The museum on Ellis Island about the stories of the immigrants was very interesting and informative. The evenings were filled with some nice Italian food in little Italy and we met up with a friend, Akiko, for some delicious Sushi. Then it was time to go to San Francisco but not without taking a very precious souvenir with me. A nice gift from the hotel to enjoy for the next weeks….. 30-40 itchy, big red bites from bedbugs on my legs, ankles and hands. Thank you very much St. James Hotel. Luckily it is only me (Paul) and not the both of us.
Arriving in San Francisco was quite a shock. What a difference with NY. In SF the atmosphere is so much more relaxing and less stressful and has a kind of mellow vibe that makes you feel at home straight away. Compared to NY, SF feels like a small city but with a great charm, especially the suburban areas with the lovely Victorian houses, the cable cars, the fisher mans wharf and its Sea Lion colony, the nice restaurants and our favorite bar (Vesuvio in North Beach). The train ride to friends ( Ferenc and Anja) of us in Menlo Park was shared with loads of "Giant" baseball fans who just came back from a game. But the highlight of our visit to SF was the bike ride over the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the whole bridge because of the fog on the bridge it was still quite awesome to do. In lovely Sauslito we had lunch and took the ferry back to SF. So we didn’t get to see the complete Golden Gate Bridge and didn’t have time to visit Alcatraz that just gives us a great excuse to come back here. But after a week of spending time in Cities we feel that it is time to start a new chapter and get on our way in our RV / Camper Van / Motor home.

Hi guys,
So good to hear from you! I wish I'd known. Emily and I went to San Francisco the second week of August and had a great time. We also biked across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito but it was glorious sunny day for us, so we lucked out.
Hope you make it south on Highway 1. it's a wonderful drive. Send more pics when you can!
