Finally arrived in Puerto Madryn after one 5 hour bus journey, an 8 hour wait in Bahia Blanca followed by a 10 hour overnight bus journey to arrive here at 8 in the morning.  After a pleasant walk along the beach we found our hostel which was very nice.

First day we explored the area and visited the area where the Welsh settlers first landed.  We saw where they had dug into the rock to make there shelters to live in - this was only 1865 and they lived there for up to 5 years!

We then went to the Penisula Valdes north of PuertoMadryn on a wildlife trip where we saw Southern Right Whales which was quality.  We saw a mother and her calf (you can see them swimming together in one of the photos) and they were the only two left in the area as all the others had now migrated.  In the peak of the season there are up to 500 whales recorded in the area.  The whales came up very close and were really playful -the size of them is unbelievable, it was an amazing experience.  We then went across the Penisula where we saw penguins, elephant seals and sealions but no Orcas were around.  At this time of the year they start to come into the shore to take the baby seals.  This is the place you see on TV!

That night we pushed the boat out and ate at an amazing fish and seafood restaurant, run by the fishermen who catch  then cook the fish.
