As we arrived into Townsville in our Winnebago we took the opportunity to drive up to our hostels doorstep and drop our bags off. This may not seem like much, but it beats having to walk around town with a map loaded up with our rucksacks. As we still had some time before the van had to be delivered we headed to the mall to locate a Vodafone store as the mobile Laura has was not registered properly. After nearly driving the van into the "max height 2 meters" sign, I cooly reversed out of the carpark and dumped the van round the back. The vodafone shop registered Lauras phone correctly and loaded her up with $160 worth of credit, so she was good to go, until later that evening, my heavy handed travel companion dropped the phone, smashing the screen. This left us right back where we started, with no Australian mobile. The eagle eyed readers out there may have noticed I have not mentioned my Australian mobile. The less said about that heap of junk the better, apart from I paid more than Laura, did not get $160 worth of free credit, and the charger did not do what it said on the tin, ie charge the phone.

We decided we would hang around Townsville for a while and see what work was available so quite a few of our days have been spent in the internet shop looking online and creating cv's. On our third day in Townsville we met up with Lauras friend from home Hannah and her boyfriend Wayne. We spent the day down at the rockpool and then went for fish and chips and ice cream in the evening. It was a really good day and nice to see a face from home. The rockpool is a nice area to hang out and we try to head down there when we can as long as its sunny. The ocean is classed as unsafe at this time of year due to jellyfish in the water so they have fenced of areas for swimming but we prefer the rockpool.

We both applied to work at the rugby game (they call it footy over here, how daft)as footy food runners. We went for the interview on a game day so we thought we might be working that day if we got the job but we where put down for the next match so we decided we should go along and watch the game anyway. The team that plays in Townsville is the North Queensland Cowboys and as the name of this blog suggests, they suck. I was tempted to try and switch my job as a footy food runner for a slot on the team as they are so bad, but I dont want to ruin my model looks so I will stick as I am. Our first game working is saturday 1st may. We are quite looking forward to it as it looks pretty easy and the atmosphere is really relaxed at the ground.

The day after the rugby game was pretty coudy so we headed to the Reef HQ which is an aquarium. This was really interesting so we spent the day listening to short talks on turtles, ocean predators and got to look in the turtle hospital they have attached to the aquarium. There is an underwater walkway in the aquarium and the fish in the tank vary from sharks, turtles, saw fish and big fat fish that look funny. We have put on a fair few pictures which will show and explaion better as my knowledge of fish is limited.

Townsville itself is a pretty nice town. Like Cairns, there is a main road that runs along the front by the ocean and there are loads of bbq areas and gym equipment on the route. There are also some parrots that live in the palm trees which fascinated Laura for a good while as she attemtped to get the perfect picture. The parrots seem to have good hearing as they kept flying away as soon as we got near. Its a nice walk along the front and reminds us how tropical Australia actually is.

We will keep the future blog updates more frequent where possible as we realised its been quite a while since our last one.
