Halong bay, the place where all the locals can see animals and people in the rocks, we however could not. The second you leave the bay in Halong City, you cant help but be dumb-struck by how beautiful Halong really is. Declared a world heritage site a few years ago, you  can really understand why they are so keen to preserve it.

We had arranged to spend the night on an old Vietnamese junk boat . When we boarded the boat we checked into our rooms, and were over the moon, it was the comfiest bed we had had in weeks. The junk was actually quite posh inside and the staff were constantly serving us fresh fruit and sea food. There were only 5 of us staying on the junk that night, so it meant that there was plenty of food to go around., and also lots of sunloungers to choose from. I dont think either of us have ever been as relaxed as we were when we were sailing through Halong Bay, so much so that we were constantly napping. It was utter bliss after spending a couple of days trying not to get ran over in Hanoi.

Later that day we boarded what the locals called a boat, and what I what call a floating basket, it was brilliant. A lady rowed us through the locals floating village. We got out of teh basket breifly to look at the floating school and the aquarium. This really tickeled me, we were in teh middle of teh sea and they have a net full of fish that they call and aquarium.

It is also quite an eye-opener when you see the houses that the locals live in. In all honesty we have bigger sheds at home, and most of there homes resembled teh hwendy house that my Dad made me when i was younger. But nether the less the children were playing out, and they all seem to have pets dogs. I tough t that this was cute as the dogs had clearly mastered walking along the poles in between each house. Where as Paul (Mr Synical) thought that the dogs were there soley as food, i hope he wasnt right.

That night on boar \d the junk we were served a massive seafood banquet. The food was such good quality, and it was brilliant to try foods that we would never noramlly have ordered. We had to break open crabs and go searching for the meat inside, i also tried the eggs as the grabs were females, something that neither of us will try again in a hurry. The food just kept coming, shrimps, king prawns, clams, huge whole fish, squid and of course the local beer to wash it down with.  When the anchor was down for the night, we starting fishing for squid off the frount off the boat, something i didnt really think i would love, but oh my word, it was hilarious. I caught two (paul caught none, apparantly there were no squid on his side of the boat, so its understandable, hahaha!). Once i had caught the squid i was clueless as what to do next. So i just flung my line on baord and waved it around screaming until some staff came to help, the second time i managed to whck the captain with my half dead squid that was still squirting out ink trying to escape, and then i hit one of teh other passengers bang on the cheek. Needless to say i thought it was so funny, as did evryone else, but im not sure that the German sense of humour stretches to having been slapped in the face with a squid. .

We ate the quid the next day, and even if i do say so myself it was delicious. We both had an amazing couple of days on baord, and would loved to have stayed longer. Im pretty sure that we will return here again one day. The limestone formations are breath taking, and something that we never tired of looking at.
