Dirty Mary's was hosting both Rugby teams for nibbles after the match so Hannah was in the kitchen from 5am with Cindy cutting out pastry circles, making pies, filling rolls and sandwiches for 120 people.
Kickoff was at 1pm and it was great to see mass support from the locals, including the two-years-olds running around in jerseys down to their ankles - they really do get them started young here......although there was one child who hadn't quite grasped the loyalty aspect of cheering and kept shouting the oppositions name. Sadly, Buller lost 15:9 with both teams only scoring points from penalties and one drop goal.
Paul and I watch in true English style with a pack of beers and sun-burned faces. Whatever would our mothers say?!
Sunday
Final badminton of the season at 11 am, but just as well because we only have four weekends left in NZ and have plans every weekend until we leave now.
We went to Viv & Mikes for a BBQ in the evening and, being in the
company of the Buller Rugby Chairman and Presedent, we watched the rugby game
all over again (which had been shown live on Sky Sports). We should
have chosen better seats so we'd have been on tv, but if you pause and
zoom right in you might see us sitting on the grass on the far left.
