Full day adventure starting at Don Det and Kayaking to Don Khon just before the waterfall. Walk across and visit the falls while our guides carry the Kayaks to the other side as there is no way you can Kayak across this waterfall! Down to the beach and then back in the Kayak. Straight away we are at the rapids, class 2-3 which to us seemed pretty tame as it is now the dry season... I guess they would be much more of a challenge in the wet season. Once we pass through 3 of these rapids we finally reach a nice quiet section as we cross the border into Cambodia for an illegal lunch?!? Well we didn't cross the border and pay just a drop in to have lunch and spot some Dolphins. As soon as we arrived everyone paddled to the beach for lunch but Emma and I stayed out just the bit longer and who pops up beside us??? Irrawaddy Dolphins. Amazing... just across from us they were popping up and clearing their blow holes. Our guide was calling us in as we had the lunch on board our Kayak so we had to end our close encounter and drop off the food. Sitting on the banks of the river the Dolphins kept on coming in for a visit. Great experience!!! Well worth it.

After lunch we carry on down the river to pass back into Laos and carry the Yaks up a bank and load them on a truck and off we go to another waterfall. This one is HUGE! The largest in South East Asia the volume of water passing through this fall is something to behold!. After this fall we head back to Don Det to finish off the day with a strange long boat ride back to the island. Strange.... well not so strange for Laos, we had around 8 Kayaks 4 being double Kayaks not all of these could fit on the boat so our giude tied two of these to the side of the boat with a very thin elastic style tie rope and then he sat on these... laughs all round on the boat as we head back to Don Det. The reason we opted for the boat back rather than the paddle back was that our guide was so tired he ordered a boat to pick us up and drop us back to the island. The reason he was so tired was that there was on older lady on the tour who wasn't interested in paddling!!! This is a Kayaking tour where yo sign up to haul your own ass around not a tour where a guide paddles you leisurely around and shows you the scenery... so to help out I pulled up beside him and we swapped for a while. Little did she know we swapped. To her surprise around 10 minutes later when she turned around to see me sitting on the back... Oh do you live here, are you a guide??? No, just here to help our poor little guide who has been paddling you around!

We paid 180,000 Kip for this adventure it is normally priced at 200,000Kip full day lunch included as well as all the strange fees they have along the way like the bridge fee!!! 20,000Kip which is well over priced.
