Met Giles and Shanai (hope the spelling is correct) the day before at Don Det Bungalows while trying to fix the wi-fi in the resturant! Turned into a bit of a drinking festival when Giles walked up the road for a bottle of lao Lao (local moonshine looks like vodka tastes like petrol) 10,000Kip a bottle $1.20. Tomorrow is Giles' Birthday.

During the drunken afternoon Giles and I discuss the next day for his birthday. Turns out he is heading for the local market (morning market) for some local produce...I mean live duck which will be prepared by his guesthouse for lunch. 6:30am we decide to meet, long boat to the market... WOW...... Let me try to paint a picture! Pull into the muddy banks, tarps spread out live fish and duck placed on the tarps, trucks, buses and mini vans struggle through the mud along with scooters. Buffalo wandering about getting in the way of buses and the sale of fish, no problems for them they stroll back to the river for a dip. We stroll into town, tables of pork, including the heads laying about ready to be sold, all sorts of meat and fish tied by string hanging from anything ready for sale. BBQ's blaring, meat frying anything from the water to the sky. Stroll back to get some duck, not much to offer so Giles opts for some carp, big one's at that. They are so HUGE carrying them back to the boat cuts off my circulation in my fingers, takes about ten minutes to return. Just before this we hang with the locals while the women shop around for bargains, men drinking beer (7:00am). Finally we head back to Don Det unload the supplies and prepare for an afternoon of Lao Lao and laughs for a birthday bash for Giles, plenty of fun to be had.

HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAYYYY Giles.
