Laos Airlines... Flight back to Vientiane to avoid back tracking by bus 11-12 hours through the winding hills of Laos.

We have heard a few dodgy stories about Laos Airlines but I think this was old info, our trip was overall quite good although Emz did feel a big sick toward the end of this flight with a super quick desent to Vientiane. All in all a safe no problem 40 minute flight back to Vientiane.

Now the long, well... not so long part from the airport to the Northern Bus station. Tuk Tuk cost around 70,000Kip each way for around a 10km run. A bus from Vientiane to Vang Vieng which is 4+ hours costs 50,000Kip... work that one out! We drop our bags off and head into town. Later we must travel back to the bus terminal to get the sleeper bus to Pakse.

Sleeper bus pulls in over an hour late, no surprise! The bus trerminal had closed but we were assured the bus will turn up at some point. Board the bus, one oversized single bed for two, great if you are a couple not so good for singles as you have to share with someone. Food and water are supplied on this bus also the bus drivers are horny as!!!! Yes HORNY. Through the night the bus was realatively quite but when daylight appeared so did the HORN and it went off constantly for what seemed liie hours... so did the giggling from the drivers and offsiders.

Arrive in Pakse and to our surprise, half asleep mind you as it is around 6.30am the local welcoming crew of travel experts climb on the bus even one in our bed with us to try to persude us that they have the best means of transport and expert advice as to where it is you would like to stay or travel to next. This bus of blurry eyed travellers are all confused as the experts drag our bags where ever THEY think is best for us, one lonely girl had her bag ripped off her back and only yelling would stop this one!
One thing you learn in all the confusion is that no matter how hard things seem at that time, it all seems to disolve and you arrive at your destination no matter where that is and you are in one piece and all is good. This has happened so many times in our travels.

Arrive hours later at the ferry terminal for Don Det. OK.... the muddy banks of the Mekong where a few long boats transport you to the island. Water buffalo's strolling about doing thier thing, tarps across the ground so the local fish can be sold along with a few chooks and ducks, esky's along the shore with bags of ice which doubles as the freezer section on the island.
