Next stop Vang Vieng a VIP bus ride... not so VIP but well above the local dodgy bus. VIP costs around $6AU for a 4 hour ride. But the sign says, pick up 9.30am arrive 14.00pm - 3 hours, love the calculation system here. The road winds through the mountains, some dirt roads with some tar, all in all we arrived safely.
Found a nice guesthouse overlooking the Nam Song river (Domon) and met up with the crew. Drinking, eating (Aussie Bar) went on a mountain bike ride with the crew to Blue Lagoon and the cave above it, 200m straight up and then wandered around the cave. Another cave on the way back after chatting with an ex-monk who shared his life experiences with us. The next cave we went to..... we got lost, pitch black, some smart back tracking and then out we go covered in sweat and a bit of mud to top it off. Long day in the saddle deserves a good night out on the Beers now onto the Namkong Beer! Aussie Bar serving ICE COLD beer in stubbie holders and grilling meat and veggies on sticks, perfect end to a long days adventure. Also..... big burgers and fries if the Asian menu has finally worn a tad thin on the taste buds.

Blue Lagoon

Next the crew decides it's time to head to Luang Prabang so let's hire a private mini bus and haggle with the local dodgy travel agents, they try to rip us off constantly until the girls secure the deal. The ride to Luang Prabang is through the mountains 5.5 hours mini bus, 7-8 hours VIP bus. The road is pretty full on so we take the easy mini bus option for a few dollars more than the bus. Now we have an extended crew, welcome Will and Cindy (England) who joined in at Aussie Bar and later to Jaidee's. Plenty of fun to be had.
Next morning we visit the sandwhich ladies just down the road from our guesthouse for one of the best breaky sandwhich's I have ever seen! Chicken, bacon, salad and mayo on a HUGE baguette fit for two! (20,000Kip) They also throw in a banana as an added bonus. Now we are ready to tackle the mini bus to Luang Prabang and the mountains that lay ahead. These mountains wind up and up, around and around, this would be a wild trip on a bus... glad we opted for the mini bus.
