This was one of our favourite places in New Zealand. The winning combination of awesome views of snow-capped mountains by a huge blue lake; hills that were covered in patches of the full colour spectrum; a stunning campsite where we got to park next to a river and between tall trees, and a quirky cinema where we sat on sofas and indulged in still-warm homemade cookies in the interval, all made it pretty ideal. It was great. Just to top it off, it was hot and sunny (which is not something we have experienced a lot of here), so we got to sunbathe by the lake for a few hours with the locals. A perfect place to stop and relax.
