We arrived in Hokitika and decided to pay for a campsite, so we could relax and power up all our electrical appliances and finished the night with a dvd in the van.
The next day we wandered round the small town looking at the locals making carvings with Jade/Bone and Shell, plus we went to see a guy blowing glass.
After Fish and Chips by the sea for lunch (probably the nicest and cheapest fish and chips we have had on our travels) we went to view Hokitika Gorge. Although this was a 60k round trip, it was well worth the drive. The water being a gorgeous bright blue. Photographs will not do it justice. After being blood donors to the mass of Sand fly's around us we returned back to camp (2 paid powered campsites in a row - we are living a life of luxury now).
We finished the night off by going to view the Glow Worm Caves which was a good experience, and then an Indian - yet another luxury for us Backpackers, but when it is half the price of back home in Ireland, sometimes you have to do these things.
Tomorrow we ahead across land to Hanmer Springs and then to Kaikoura.
