Well what a difference a few days make.

After a great first day in Batu Ferringhi, we headed back to our motel room (what a lovely name for a prison cell - we will eventually get a picture of it uploaded) and as I entered the bathroom I saw the biggest cockroach I had ever seen - thankfully it scurried quickly down the drain - and Ciara didn't see it.

We then spent the night playing alcoholic snakes and ladders with very cheap vodka - we had a good night (although we couldn't do much else in the room) and at least the vodka helped us sleep a small bit - although we were both wondering where the next cockroach was coming from.

The next day we woke and Ciara had already spotted a wee lizard climbing round the roof, (The previous night she found these we reptile creatures quite cute when we saw them on a table outside - but not in our own wee hovel of a room).

We decided to immediately find a new place to stay, and so walked round the corner to a lovely looking guesthouse (which was next door to the guest house that we were originally meant to be going to with the taxi driver from the previous day)

The lady from Ali's Guest House (Andy - for your info - lovely guest house on the beach front - clean room with shower for RM65 per night (11 quid) and lovely ommellete for breakfast - Batu Ferringhi is a far nicer place to stay if you want to relax than Georgetown) proceeded to tell us that the taxi drivers regularly work on commission for certain shit holes and even if you ask them to bring you somewhere, they will try and advise you otherwise.

Well we far more comfortable in our new surroundings and went into Georgetown the next day to visit - very commercial. We got spotted by a wee old man riding a trishaw (a sort of bike where myself and Ciara sat in the front and this wee old man peddalled from the back). He offered us a tour of Georgetown for RM30 per hour so we went for it.

Very cool trip - we stopped off at Chinatown, Little India, The Penang Temple and Museum and a few other quaint loking places.

Today we decided to be lazy and sit on the beach - temporarily being interrupted by a 1.5 hr heavy Thunder and lightening rain shower, which was quite cool to look at sitting under a gazeebo on the beach..

Early night tonight and Langkawi (Eagle Island) in the morning.
