Where I stayed
What I did
The beach and the streets
Our journey to Byron Bay was quite eventful. Between the flooded roads that forced us to find alternate routes, a fight between two women we were travelling with, and a huge huntsman spider (the size of my palm!!) running above our heads in the car, my blissed out state from the ashram was well and truly gone!
Luckily we were in Byron Bay, where they put the chill in chilled out. It's a place with dreadlocked heads, buskers in every corner, guys loudly talking about getting a wax (for their surfboards), organic food, yoga, art, shops with all sorts of uniquely designed stuff, surfers of every age and sex and not a Mac D’s in sight. Even the local council was running a 'magic of youth sexuality’ course that weekend. Ha I’d like to see the Hammersmith and Fulham council organise that. After about 30 minutes Paul and I wanted to move there.
We loved the vibe of the town’s few streets, and even though there was quite a middle class air about it, it also felt quite bohemian and hippyish. To the extent that we weren’t at all surprised when we were offered hash pancakes by a passing lad.
And we haven’t even mentioned the beach yet! Miles of sand with waves that are just perfect for surfing and a view to die for across the beach. We were really tempted to get ourselves a surf lesson or two but the weather was stormy and cold so we decided to pass. I’m sure we’ll regret it somewhere down the line.
Karen is not wrong! Byron Bay was our type of place. I loved it. I suppose it was like Glastonbury but with sun, well normally there is sun but as Karen mentioned, it pissed down for the 3 days we were there. Oh well, it is good practice for our return to England! It’s a shame we did not get to see the place in the sun but to be honest we were in a very chilled mood anyway. I think our bodies are naturally slowing down now knowing that we will be home in a few days time. To all our Aussie mates you have to come here! Either on holiday or to move! It’s brilliant.
Right I don’t have much more to say for a change. We fly to Sydney tomorrow to stay for one night at an airport hotel before the final journey! One more blog on the way!
Love as always,
Paul & Karen xxx
