Good evening all ( well it's evening our time).

Here is a short & sweet blog about our Brisbane stop off.

We only had a day and a half in Brisbane as we had to get a train up to Airlie Beach which is the gateway to The Whitsunday islands.

To be honest a day and a half is enough time to see most of the city center anyhow which sounds a bit crap but we really liked our time spent in Brisbane. On the recommendation of a friend (cheers Mr Andrew Rainnie) we went to Brisbane's museum of modern art and saw some amazing stuff, mainly by a Japanese artist called Yayoi Kusama who I had never heard of before. Well after seeing her stuff I became her biggest fan! I loved her imagination and story. I have not been this excited about an artist since I first discovered Edward Hopper. Just look at our photos and you will see what I mean.

Brisbane was the first place in Australia where we stayed in a hostel. The hostel was pleasant enough (although we have been in a lot better since) but the most annoying thing was all the rules the hostel enforced. It was like they were dealing with children. Maybe it's because most of the backpacking clientele in Australia are young but after the freedom of Asian hostels it was a bit of a shock to the system. We did meet some nice travelers there though and thank god it was not one of the infamous party hostels!

So now we are in our 4th state of Australia after Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. We were really looking forward to Queensland because it has two sites that we were dying to see: The Whitsunday Islands and in particular, Whitehaven Beach and of course The Great Barrier Reef, the mecca for divers.

Let's get back on that ocean! See you later land lovers!

Love and kisses,

Paul & Karen ( who is snoring her head off!)

Wowee, I can see why you liked her - seems like Alice meets jellyfish meets aboriginal art meets Disney :) I wonder what her dreams are like!
