Celebrated my Dad's birthday and toured the city
Here is our blog from Kuala Lumpur. We are slightly behind I know!
We had a big journey to get back to Kuala Lumpur from Tioman Island. We had a taxi at 09:00 to the ferry. Unfortunately, the ferry was delayed and was running only with one engine which meant that it took longer to get back to mainland Malaysia. We then got on to an ancient bus which was as hot as the surface of the sun. Thankfully they changed it halfway to Kuala Lumpur and we got on a much newer and cooler version. We got into Kuala Lumpur at 19:00 and jumped into two taxis 5 minutes later. It should have taken roughly 30mins to our guesthouse. 1hr 30mins later we were still in the taxis! Not because of the notorious traffic but because the drivers had no idea where they were going. It was so frustrating after such a long day
The following day was our last day with my Parents. Boo hoo. We took them down to the area known as the Golden Triangle and had a lovely meal to celebrate my Dad's birthday which was the following week. We went around the beautiful Petronas Towers, did a few malls (it was very hot and they have a/c) and also walked around Chinatown. It was really hard to say our goodbyes that evening. These past 3 weeks have been amazing but they have seemed to go a lot quicker than when my parents were in Thailand back in December. Thanks for coming once again Mom & Dad, we miss and love you.
The next morning we woke up to find out that our volunteering gig at the detox center in Kho Phangan had been cancelled. What with my folks leaving and that news we were well down. Luckily we found another volunteering post quickly in Eastern Thailand with a small organic farm and school. So we will be doing some gardening and teaching English / Brummie to small Thai kids. We can't wait.
It seems like we have been constantly going in and out of Kuala Lumpur. I like the city a lot and would not hesitate to come back.
Now we are on our way back to Thailand. Unexpected but exciting at the same time. We have about 10 days to chill before we start the volunteering so see you on the beach in Kho Phangan!
All our love Paul & Karen (who will get less royalty's when this is a bestseller!) xxx
